Proposed Capital Development

Development is proposed over the period to 2010 with specific targets to be achieved in this period.  In general the sequence will be to build new buildings to re-accommodate existing departments and accommodate new departments.  When a department is re-accommodated the space vacated in existing permanent buildings will be refurbished.

The following will be completed in the period to 2010:

  1. CERT Tourism and Leisure Building (Cork Road Campus) (7,660 sq.m.) to be completed in 2007, under traditional procurement route with exchequer funding
  2. Architecture Building (West Campus at Carriganore) (6,000 sq.m.)
  3. Business and Enterprise Building (West Campus at Carriganore) (6,000 sq.m.)
  4. Centre for Sporting Excellence (West Campus at Carriganore) (20.21 Ha).  These facilities commenced development in August 2007.  The first phase of this exciting project will be the development of three flood-lit sand carpet pitches, a training area, and the initial preparation of an area for a full-sized all-weather hurling pitch. The remaining facilities will be developed on a phased basis over the next 5 years including a Sports and aquatic centre, Sports pavilion centre and Athletics track and centre
  5. It is proposed to remove all temporary buildings and all existing permanent buildings will be refurbished up to current standards to accommodate remaining departments of Science, Business Studies and support facilities.

Phased development of 150-acre West Campus at Carriganore will include academic, residential, sports and catering facilities. To be funded from a variety of sources including private donations, gifts and private investment in suitable complementary development opportunities, with some Exchequer relief also envisaged. A Biological Records Centre and the WIT Foundation & Alumni Offices at Carriganore House are to be located on the West Campus at Carriganore.
