De le Salle Waterford win National Elec Eng Quiz 2009

Schools nationwide participated in the National Elec Eng table quiz (Electrical & Electronic Engineering) on Saturday 17th January, hosted at four venues, WIT, UCC, GMIT & DIT. Each of the local centres were connected via video conferencing technology and the quiz was run simultaneously at all four sites.
The quiz gave second level students a chance to test their general knowledge , mathematical ability, science and technology knowledge. Teams from schools in Waterford and Wexford competed in the local event hosted at WIT . The winning team in Waterford was De la Salle Waterford , with St Augustines Dungarvan coming second and the Mercy Secondary school Waterford third. Generous prizes of portable DVD players , iPOD docking stations and Memory USB keys were sponsored by AIB , Analog Devices , EMC Ireland ,Memory C, Cooney Electronics and Farnell Electronics.
In addition to the local prizes, De la Salle college achieved the highest score of all four hosting sites and, as a result, are the 2009 national champions and thereby receive an additional prize of 2000 eu of technical equipment for their school sponsored by Midas Ireland (Microelectronics Industry Design Association).
