FÁS and WIT Launch Short-Time Work Initiative for 2010 Posted: Mon, December 21, 2009 |
FÁS , in conjunction with Waterford Institute of Technology and Enniscorthy Enterprise and Technology Centre, is offering employees the opportunity to gain the WIT accredited Higher Certificate in Enterprise Development whilst on systematic short time work. This initiative is aimed at employees who are systematic short time working hours i.e. working three days per week.
Speaking at the launch of this pilot initiative, Eamonn McGettigan, FÁS, said that this offers Waterford and Wexford employees a chance to gain a Business qualification and make the most of their short time work. The year-long course is open to all employees who are systematic short time working hours. It is fully funded by FÁS and participants do not have to pay any tuition fee. All applicants must submit their PPS number for verification by the Department of Social and Family Affairs and successful applicants will retain their Social Welfare entitlements whilst on the course.
Mary Fenton, Head of Adult & Continuing Education, said that the Higher Certificate in Enterprise Development is a Level 6 qualification and is a skills-based course designed to give practical business knowledge to people working in business and industry. It is ideally suited for adults who have developed a considerable range of skills and experience within their workplace and who wish to pursue an accredited course which will enhance their employment and career prospects. In addition, each participant will be allocated four one-to-one sessions with a dedicated coach to assist him/her in attaining his/her study and work goal
The year-long course will be delivered over two days per week* (9am – 5pm), week beginning 1 February 2010, in both WIT and Enniscorthy Enterprise and Technology Centre. Places are limited to 20 in both centres.
Anybody interested in applying for the course can apply on–line at www.wit.ie on or before Wednesday 20 January 2010 and all eligible applicants will be called for interview.
