WIT School of Business welcomes Dr. Tim Longfellow

WIT  School of Business welcomes Dr. Tim Longfellow, Chairperson of the Department of Marketing, Illinois State University.

Dr. Longfellow will be visiting the School from February 8th to 19th. During his visit he will give guest lectures to undergraduate, post- graduate and entrepreneurship students along with meeting researchers and academic staff.

Dr. Longfellow's primary teaching and research areas include Marketing Research, Marketing Strategy, and Professional Sales. His current research is in the area of consumer decision making as it relates to Recycling Behaviors and the Purchasing Behaviors for Green Products.

Dr. Longfellow's visit extends on-going collaborative relations between Illinois State University and Waterford Institute of Technology.

Profile:

Dr. Tim Longfellow joined the Marketing faculty at Illinois State University in August 1988. Tim is currently the Department Chair. For the four years prior to this, he served as Director of the M.B.A. program at Illinois State University.

Current Teaching Interests: Personal Selling and Relationship Marketing, Undergraduate and Graduate Marketing Research, Introduction to Marketing Management, Services Marketing, Graduate Marketing Management.

Current Research Interests: Dr. Longfellow's current research interests focus on the impact of various individual and organizational factors on the consumers' evaluation of service quality and satisfaction. His most recent publications have appeared in Journal of Retailing, Psychological Reports, Journal of Small Business Management, Proceedings of the National Sales Conference , Journal of Business and Psychology , Journal of Marketing Education , Proceedings of the American Marketing Association Educators' Conference and Proceedings of the Academy of Marketing Science . Other research interests include Consumer Involvement with Services, and Salesperson performance. Dr. Longfellow (with Mike Williams) has also developed a National Index of Customer Satisfaction for the Insurance Industry that includes factors contributing to satisfaction and customer retention within the insurance industry.

Consulting and Work Experience:Dr. Longfellow has been involved in the development of a strategic marketing plan for a regional mental health facility in eastern Illinois . Tim has also served as an Instructor of Marketing at Eastern Illinois University (1983-1984) and he has worked as a sales professional for Fidelity Union Life Insurance Company (1982-1983). As a business consultant, Tim has had a wide variety of activities. He has presented a seminars on marketing strategy planning, development, and implementation to marketing manager trainees for GROWMARK (an international agribusiness company), seminars in customer relations and customer retention for ILLINOVA, and sales techniques for advanced (more than five years selling experience) insurance sales agents for the National Association of Professional Insurance Agents (PIA). In addition, Tim has developed and supervised several client satisfaction and internal benchmarking studies, market feasibility and targeted marketing studies for both small local and large international organizations. Tim was also highly involved in a study focused on projecting future agribusiness production into the next century for an international agri-business firm.

Professional Affiliations, Honors, and Awards: Tim is a member of the American Marketing Association, the Academy of Marketing Science , Pi Sigma Epsilon and Sales and Marketing Executives International. In 1987, he represented the University of Kentucky at the AMA Doctoral Consortium held that year at New York University . Tim will serve as President of the Central Illinois Chapter of the American Marketing Association during 2003-2004. He has previously served that group as a director, V.P. for Programming and President-Elect. In 1992, Tim was selected to participate in the AMA Faculty Consortium on Selling and Sales Management. The Illinois State Alumni Association recognized him as the 1992-93 Outstanding Teacher of the Year in the College of Business . In addition, Dr. Longfellow was the Editor for the 1995 Proceedings for the National Conference in Sales Management, the Program Chair for the 1996 and 1997 NCSM, and the National Director for NCSM in 1998 and 1999.
