The Waterford Ophthalmic Research Fund (WORF) was established in 2004 by Professor Stephen Beatty, Dr. John Nolan & Dr. Orla O'Donovan, and is a registered charity.  WORF aims to facilitate and support healthcare workers in the South East of Ireland who are involved in the educational aspects of blindness and visual impairment, and to facilitate research into the causes of blindness.  WORF currently supports several projects aimed at investigating means of preventing age-related macular degeneration. 

How can you help?

Make a donation

WORF relies heavily on both personal and corporate donations to fund research projects. 

Make a regular donation

By becoming a regular donor for WORF you are providing a regular form of support to our charity and our research projects around Ireland. Your money will go directly to fund vital and ground-breaking research for blindness in the elderly.  Your continued support could mean that ultimately Ireland may be the country responsible for discovering the CURE for age-related blindness.

Leave a gift in your will

Including a gift in your will to WORF is a wonderful way to make a difference to the lives of people affected by blindness. Anyone can leave a gift in his or her will to WORF and it doesn't have to be for a lot of money. 

Make a special Birthday/Christmas gift

A donation in lieu of a birthday or Christmas gift can be a special way to show you are thinking of someone.  We will write to you and/or your birthday recipient to thank you for your kind gift.

In memory giving

A donation to WORF in place of funeral flowers can be a special way of remembering a loved one, especially if they suffered from sight problems during their lifetime.

Participate in a Marathon

WORF would like to invite people running, or interested in running, in any of the many marathons which take place every year in Ireland to join them in making a real difference in the fight against age-related blindness.  Many people who are running marathons find that their family and friends are willing to donate to their chosen charity in recognition of their achievement. It doesn't have to be a marathon. Any of the many fun runs around the country would also bean ideal event for collecting sponsorship.

Sponsor an event

If you are part of a sponsored walk or swim, would like shave your head for charity or simply want to raise money for a good cause , WORF will cover all events so that all participant funds go directly into the research projects.
