Innovation and the use of technology to improve the lives of people are the core values of the department.  There has never been a better time to study computing and related subjects. There are many employment opportunities for graduates with technical skills.

At WIT, students come first. We believe that learning should be exhilarating and rewarding.

We are strong advocates of Women in Technology.

The economic and social well being of the South East Region and Ireland depends on our ability to create sustainable, high technology employment. The good news is that through team work with local industry, we are succeeding in this task and contributing strongly to regional development. But, we need a constant supply of young people with imagination, creativity and team-based skills to pioneer the next generation of technical innovation.Staff in the department work constantly to refresh our portfolio of courses; this work complies with international best practices and is designed to meet the needs of industry and society. We have invested heavily in ELearning and new methods of teaching. Our modular system (MAP) offers students flexibility in designing their learning paths.

We are grateful to schools in the region and to Guidance Counsellors, in particular, for their support in organising joint programmes with us.

Our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes are offered in fulltime and in a life long learning framework; modules can be undertaken in block release mode, in accelerated learning format and within a distance education structure to cater for the diverse needs of our learners.

WIT is a research led, university level institution and the School of Science is accredited to award degrees to Doctoral level. Research is undertaken by individual faculty members and through the research centres associated with the Eugene Lawler Graduate School of Computing.

International students, who make up 15% of students, bring a rich diversity of cultural experiences to our work. We offer joint degree programmes in computing to students in NUIST and hope to shortly offer similar programmes to other international partners in the near future.

Is cúis mórtais dom go bhfuil dul chun chinn chomh súntasach déanta ag an bhfuireann maille le cúrsaí den scoth agus cumas taighde ar léibhéal domhanda a sholaithriú don Réigiún.

Le gach de-ghuí,

Dr. Mícheál Ó hÉigeartaigh
