MSc in Construction Project Management (1 Yr Full Time)

PROGRAMME STRUCTURE

This programme is at NQF Level 9 and it has been designed for participants who want to develop their Construction Project Management knowledge and skills at postgraduate level. While it is open to NQF Level 8 degree holders from construction related disciplines (e.g. Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Architecture, Architectural Technology, Construction Management), it is also open to those with either NQF Level 7 qualifications or Professional Body qualifications in addition to relevant work experience.

Applicants for this one-year full-time programme are a mix of recent graduates as well as others who are returning to higher education. Completing this programme and gaining the MSc qualification should enable the successful participants to subsequently obtain employment in the Irish and International Construction Industry and generally improve their overall career prospects.

PROGRAMME AIMS

This programme aims to:
- Develop a deep understanding of and competence in the key project management processes in a construction environment;
- Develop the participants’ research knowledge and capabilities, thus enabling their application to the management of projects, innovation and continuous improvement in the construction industry.

Research Methodology

Dissertation

There will be two 12-week semesters of taught modules (Sep-Dec 2009 & Jan-May 2010 ) and the May-Sep 2010 period will be used for completing the Dissertation. The classes for the 2 semesters of taught modules will generally be scheduled for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of each week and they will typically be in the order of 12 contact hours over these 3 days. The vast majority of the assessments for the programme will be a mix of written reports and oral presentations. Some of these reports and presentations will be group-based. There will also be some online/eLearning elements to the programme using the Institute's Moodle system

ADMISSION CRITERIA
To access the MSc Construction Project Management an applicant must:

- a cognate NQF Level 8 degree with Honours 2.1 for recent graduates and in addition the candidate would have some appropriate industrial experience, ideally at a managerial level;
or
- hold corporate membership of a relevant professional body and in addition the candidate would have some appropriate industrial experience, ideally at a managerial level;
or
- hold an alternative approved qualification together with a preferred minimum of three years appropriate industrial experience at managerial level.

The Head of Department and Programme Leader decisions on this matter is final.
