The overall aim of the MA in Education is to offer education professionals flexiable pathways to a Masters qualification allowing module choice in accordance with their professional interests whilst developing a set of core educational competencesCourse Aims
On successful completion of the course, graduates will be able to:
• Locate, critically analyse and evaluate published research and other academic material from the broad discipline of education• Deploy a systematic understanding of, and an ability to engage critically with, core educational theories and historical and current debates in the field of education
• Reflect on and refine their own professional practice continuously in the light of enhanced understandings of core issues in educational theory and practice
• Engage with academics and fellow practitioners in debate on current issues in educational theory and practice and to participate actively in the various educational
communities of practice to which they belong
• Participate actively and critically with key issues in specific educational fields identified as being of particular significance to their own professional practice and ongoing
professionaldevelopment
• Demonstrate an understanding of the processes of research and knowledge generation in the field of education through the design, implementation and dissemination
of a small-scale research project or the evaluation of an innovative educational product
• Display a command of academic discourse and a capacity to present their ideas in a manner consistent with the standards expected of educational scholarship.
Course Features
The programme aims to offer education professionals a flexible route to a Masters qualification, allowing them to choose modules in accordance with their professionalinterests and practice, whilst developing a set of core educational competences. The mandatory modules enable the acquisition of a range of theoretical and practical approacheappropriate to Level 9 study.
Students will acquire the key competences and transferable skills and then choose from a range of electives appropriate to their interests and practices. The mandatory research component of the MA in Education will enable participants to develop and apply their research skills to design, implement and report on a small scale research project or academic paper for publication or design, test and evaluate an educational product.
Course Delivery
• Participants will learn about theoretical concepts and will then engage in independent study through project work that involves applying the learning to their ownpractice.
• A range of modules are offered each year. Participants can select modules to suit their own development needs or towards the Masters Programme, which they can
complete in a maximum of five years.
• It is also possible to study modules on an individual basis and be awarded single certificates on successful completion.
Course Structure
The Postgraduate Diploma is subsumed into the Masters Qualification and graduates cannot hold both the Postgraduate Diploma and Masters awards.
Recognition of Prior Learning
Where candidates can demonstrate the achievement of module learning outcomes through prior or experiential learning, advance entry or exemptions may be granted.
Entry Details
Those applying for entry to the to the Postgraduate Diploma/ Master of Arts in Education should hold at least a second class honours Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent to comply with WIT’s Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) Policy.Fees
