MA in Arts & Heritage Management

The aim of the Masters in Arts & Heritage Management is to address specific and identified needs within the arts and heritage industry for management training in the area of cultural administration, and to provide you with the necessary skills for effective cultural leadership and management. It offers you an opportunity to reflect on your professional practice (work placement) and gain a theoretical and critical perspective on managing organisations and events in the cultural/heritage sector.

The Masters in Arts & Heritage Management is a 90-credit programme suited to Arts graduates, Business graduates with a particular interest in arts/heritage, and practitioners of the arts/heritage sectors.

Mandatory Modules

  • Irish Arts, Heritage & Cultural Studies (10 credits)
  • Strategic & Financial Management (5 credits) 
  • Cultural Tourism & Public Policy Studies (5 credits) 
  • Professional Development & Research I, including Minor Placement (5 credits)
  • Events Management (5 credits)
  • Employment & Legislative Studies (10 credits)
  • Public Relations (5 credits)
  • Professional Development & Research II, including Minor Placement (5 credits)
  • Major Placement (15 credits)
  • Minor Dissertation (15 credits)

Electives in Semester 1

  • Museum & Gallery Studies I (5 credits)
  • Arts in Context I (5 credits)

Electives in Semester 2

  •  Museum & Gallery Studies II (5 credits)
  •  Arts in Context II (5 credits)

Entry Requirements

  • A 2nd Class Honours Degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline
  • Access to a cultural organisation where your work placement and research can be carried out

More information

Delivery:

The programme is delivered over three semesters.  In the first two semesters (Sep-Dec and Jan-April), lectures are normally delivered two days per week (including a Saturday morning) and one evening per week. 

Students are also required to undertake Work Placement (a minimum of forty days throughout the duration of the programme) in an approved organisation in the Irish Arts or Heritage Sector.

In Semester 3 (June-Aug), students complete their Minor Dissertation and Work Placement.
