MSc in Science Education (Primary Science)

Introduction

The MSc in Science Education (Primary Science) is a flexible modular part-time programme which has been developed to meet the needs of teaching professionals at primary level in science education. This programme has been developed in conjunction with scientists, educationalists and practising teachers working at primary level in science education.

The programme modules are as follows:

Mandatory: (40 credits)

  • Academic Enquiry (10 credits)
  • Pedagogy of Learning and Teaching Science (10 credits)
  • Research Methods in Education (10 credits)
  • Scientific Thoughts Processes and Awareness (10 credits)

Electives: (choose 50 credits, can only elect one 20 credit module)

  • Digital Technology & Science Education (10 credits)
  • Teaching the Materials Strand (10 credits)
  • Teaching the Energy & Forces strand (10 credits)
  • Teaching the Living Things Strand (10 credits)
  • Teaching the Environment Awareness & Care Strand (10 credits)
  • Dissertation*  (20 credits)
  • Educational Product* (20 credits)
  • Writing for Publication* (20 credits)

Please note:  *Research Methods in Education is a prerequisite for the Dissertation, Educational Product and Writing for Publication Modules.

Duration : 1 year full-time or 2 years part-time

Times:

  • Full-time - Thursday (2-9pm) & Saturday (10-5pm)
  • Part-time – One evening and every second Saturday (10-5 pm)

Cost : €6,300
