Information relating to the car parks and traffic management at each campus of Waterford Institute of Technology for the 2016/17 academic year.

Main Campus, Cork Road, Waterford

Demand for car parking spaces on this campus often exceeds supply. In addition, the Institute must maintain emergency access routes throughout the campus as agreed with the Chief Fire Officer. To assist you with choosing a parking space please park within the white lines. Yellow boxes and double yellow lines have been placed on the roads and within car parks. As per road regulations please do not park on these areas or your car will be clamped. If you are clamped instructions will be left on your car as to how to get the clamp released. If you want to appeal against a clamping offence there is an appeals procedure, details of which will be attached to your window screen.

We would respectfully request that you do not park in residential areas surrounding the Institute. Once again additional parking will be available at the RSC, more details below. Please be mindful of bicycle users and pedestrians when using the car parks. A 10km/h speed limit applies to all Institute car parks.

Car park at RSC

Once again, additional car parking is available in the RSC. A shuttle bus will run each morning and evening from the RSC to the Institute. This bus will commence on Monday 12th September 2016 and operates during semester time only. A shuttle bus timetable will be available to download here.

Bicycle users

  • On the main campus there are 4 areas where bicycles can be parked

  • At the side of the Tourism and Leisure building

  • Between the Administration building and the Engineering corridor (opposite the Security Office)

  • Outside the Gallery Restaurant directly opposite the Walton IT building

  • To the west side of the O'Connell Bianconi (Health Sciences) Building just past the Walton Building

  • Showers are available on the first floor of the multi-purpose Hall as are lockers (padlock required)

  • Showers are also available in the O'Connell Bianconi (Health Sciences) Building.

Here’s a short youtube video made by TCD for staff and students that shows how to securely lock a bike to minimise the risk of theft and/or damage.

Reserved Visitor Parking

Reserved Visitor car parking is available in the car park to the rear of the Tourism and Leisure Building. If you would like to apply to reserve a space for a visitor please email the name of your visitor, car registration details and duration of stay including arrival and departure times to [email protected]. You must give at least 24 hours notice. Estates will try to facilitate requests but cannot guarantee a space due to the limited number of spaces available.

College Street Campus

Additional parking has been made available by extending the car park in the College Street Campus. Whilst only some of this car park is lined, kerbs have been put in place to guide you when parking. For ease of use this car park has an entry and exit point. Other car parking is available in College Street from the Bunker Hill entrance.

Yellow boxes and double yellow lines have been placed on the roads and within car parks as the Institute is bound to keep emergency access routes clear. As per road regulations please do not park on these areas or your car will be clamped. If you are clamped instructions will be left on your car as to how to get the clamp released. If you want to appeal against a clamping offence you will need to complete an Appeals Procedure form, details of which will be left on your car.

Bicycle users

Bicycle parking is available to the front of the main entrance on the College street Campus. You are welcome to use the shower and locker facilities located at the Dance Studio (just past the chapel).
