I have worked for the Literacy Development Centre in the School of Education since 2001, mainly as Assistant Lecturer and Programme Leader for the BA (Hons) in Teaching in Adult and Further Education, BA (Hons) in Adult and Further Education and the BA in Adult and Further Education. I also was the Single Certificate (ACCS) Co-ordinator for a number of years.
Prior to that I was Co-ordinator of the Vocational Training Opportunities Scheme (VTOS) with the VEC/now ETB in Co. Offaly as well as an adult education tutor in a variety of ETB’s and other settings. I was also Employer Liaison Officer and Information Officer in Obair: Local Employment Service Network (LESN) in Co. Kildare.
I am currently Programme Leader for the BA (Hons) in Teaching in Adult and Further Education, BA (Hons) in Adult and Further Education and the BA in Adult and Further Education.
I have taught modules such as Thinking and Learning Skills; Equality and Diversity and been involved in developing the practice placement portfolios for the Teacher Education Qualification (TEQ) - BA (Hons) in Teaching in Adult and Further Education. I have supervised research projects for BA (Hons) students. I am a Practice Placement Tutor for the TEQ programmes.
All of my teaching experience has been with adult and non-traditional learners – before joining WIT, I taught in a variety of settings including VTOS, Adult Literacy Schemes, the Matt Talbot Community Trust in Chapelizod, Co. Dublin; Co. Kildare VEC/ETB and Co. Wicklow VEC/ETB. Subject areas included adult literacy; numeracy; Communications; English; Creative Writing; Liberal Studies (NUIM) etc.
