My Biography

Deirdre Adams graduated from University College Dublin in 1985 with a BA degree in English and Greek and Roman Civilisation . She gained her Higher Diploma in Education from UCD in 1986. She travelled abroad teaching in the USA, Colombia and in the UK between 1986 and 1996. She also trained as a counsellor with Relate the couple counselling service in the UK. She commenced her legal studies at  Leeds University in 1997 where she completed  a Postgraduate Diploma in Law.  She completed her Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice at Sheffield University in 1998. Her legal studies were sponsored by Nabarro Nathanson Soliciotors, a top 20 UK commercial law firm, with whom she completed her traineeship to qualify as a solictor. During her time with Nabarro Nathanson she worked on a number of high profile cases in the areas of property and construction law.

She was admitted to the Roll of Solicitors of the Supreme Court of England and Wales in 2002.

She was admitted to the Roll of Solicitors of the Law Society of Ireland in 2003

On returning to Ireland in 2003 she worked in private practice as a solicitor in Waterford for three years before becoming a full time lecturer at Waterford Institute of Technology in 2006.

Teaching

Deirdre Adams has ten years teaching experience at second level in the UK and in the USA.

She has been a full time lecturer at WIT since 2006. She is the course leader for the LLB (Hons) at WIT. She has lectuered in the following subject areas;

Business Law

Deirdre Adams completed her traineeship with Nabarro Nathanson Solicitors in the UK. She worked in Commercial property advising clients such as Tommy Hilfiger retail  regarding commercial leases. She also worked in the Construction Department at Nabarro Nathanson working on the construction contracts for clients including the  British Government. She also worked in the Pensions Department at Nabarro Nathanson advising trustees of pension funds  and advising on pensions issues relating to  commercial transaction including company mergers.

In Ireland she worked  as a solicitor with Kinsella Heffernan Foskin Solicitors in Waterford. She gained experience in several areas of Irish law including probate, private property, litigation and criminal defence.

She currently serves on the boards of mangement of Garter Lane Arts Cenrtre in Waterford and Clongowes Wood College, Clane Co. Kildare.
