I am a graduate of Bolton Street/ DIT qualifying as an architect in 1978. I worked for 6 years in Dublin as design junior architect and later as site architect on Beaumont Hospital. I moved to Northern Ireland to work with Liam McCormick on a church in Redhill, Surrey, UK before taking up a Department of Education scholarship to study 'Timer in Architecture' in Helsinki, Finland. I stayed in Finland for 12 years 1985-97 working with a number of architects in Helsinki (Erik Adlercreutz, Juhani Pallasmaa, Kaisa Blomstedt, Petri and Severi Blomstedt, Bruno Erat) before setting up my own studio Keko Oy specialising in sustainable design.
In Finland I worked with Helsinki University's Rural Research and Development Centre in Mikkeli, organising and lecturing on their graduate course in Sustainable Design. This was a course designed for engineers and architects to upskill and develop their knowledge in 'Ecological Building Methods'.
Returning to Ireland in 1997 I took up a position as partime lecturer at WIT on the Architectural Technology Course and later a fulltime position on both the Architectural Technology and Architecture courses where I work to this day.
