My Biography

Currently Head of Department of Management and Organisation I am responsible for the academic leadership and management of the department. I also contribute to the running of the School of Business and wider Institute.

The department of Management and Organisation has 37 lecturing staff, 3 post- doctoral staff and 650 students, comprising undergraduate, master and doctoral students.

Undergraduate full-time programmes offered by the Department include;

Bachelor of Business (Hons)
BA (Hons) in Marketing & Digital Media
BA (Hons) in International Business
BSc in Retail Management

Part-time programmes offered through the Department include;

Bachelor of Business (Hons) ACCS mode

The Department has a strong history of enterprise education and links with local, regional and international entrepreneurs and entrepreneur educators. New Frontiers, Enterprise Ireland’s national entrepreneur development programme for innovative, early-stage start-ups is linked with the department. The department staff  have specialisms in the areas of Management, Enterprise, Human Resource Management and Marketing.

I joined Waterford Institute of Technology (then Waterford Regional Technical College) in 1981 as a College Teacher in Business Studies. I subsequently progressed to Lecturer and Senior Lecturer grades and to Head of Department in June 2004. I qualified as a secondary school teacher, completing a Higher Diploma in Education after my B. Comm degree at UCD. I also hold a MA in Management in Education, BA (Hons) in Business and Financial Studies and BA (Hons) in Human Resource Management.

Teaching

My teaching experience is predominately at undergraduate level. I have lectured on a range of programmes in the Schools of Business, Humanities and Science, from Level 6 to Level 9 in the areas of Human Resource Management, Employee Relations, Employment Resourcing, Organisational Behaviour and Teaching Skills. I have also supervised undergraduate dissertations.

I have a keen interest in business education and teaching.
