My Biography

Dr. Lucy Hearne is an Assistant Lecturer in the School of Education and Lifelong Learning, Waterford Institute of Technology. She is a qualified guidance counsellor with over 20 years experience as a practitioner, third level educator and researcher. 

Research

Dr. Hearne's specific research interest areas are lifelong learning and lifelong career guidance, adult and further education policy, career development, and reflective practice. From 2006 onwards Dr. Hearne has been a recipient of numerous research funding awards from the Irish Research Council (IRC) and Higher Education Institutional Seed Funds. She supervises Taught Masters, Research Masters, and PhD students on a range of topic areas including guidance counselling, and professional practice in post primary, adult and higher education. Currently, she is a team researcher on an Erasmus+ policy experimentation research project in Waterford Institute of Technology in collaboration with stakeholders in Ireland, Malta and Norway. She is a member of two journal editorial advisory panels; International Journal of Educational and Vocational Guidance and British Journal of Guidance and Counselling.

Dr. Hearne's teaching areas include guidance counselling policy, theory and practice, career development, lifespan development, educational policy, professional portfolio work and research methods.
