My Biography

Ms. Miriam Teresa Farrell (R.P.N. (Hons), R.G.N. (Hons), B.S.c. (Hons), M.S.c. (Hons) in Nursing Education, (R.N.T.) is a lecturer at the Department of Nursing & Healthcare, WIT since 2006 where she lectures on both undergarduate and postgraduate programmes. She holds degrees from University College Dublin MSc. (Hons) Nursing /Midwifery Education), University College Dublin (BSc. (Hons) in Nursing & Midwifery achieving the highest academic award for that year in the medical Faculty. Miriam also attained at University College Dublin a B.S.c (Nursing) Access to Degree and B. Nursing Studies Access. She trained and qualified with Honours as a Psychiatric Nurse at St. Patrick’s University Hospital, Dublin and qualified with Honours as a General Nurse having undertaken a  postgraduate programme at St. Michaels Hospital Dun Laoighaire, Dublin.

Miriam has a wide range of clinical experience working in both Ireland and Australia in acute general medical and surgical units and both acute and enduring mental health settings. She held a number of clinical positions at St. Patrick’s University Hospital, St. Michael’s Hospital, Dublin, St. James’s Hospital, Dublin, St Vincent’s and St Henry’s Hospital Sydney, Australia, St. Lukes Hospital Kilkenny.  Her most recent clinical position was as a member of the Substance Misuse  / Dual diagnosis team in St. Patricks Hospital. She progressed into education in 2001 as a Clinical Placement Co-ordinator with an active role in practice development, support and guidance of undergraduate nurse education and assessment within the clinical learning environment and nurse tutor role associated with Trinity College Dublin. Since her academic appointment to the Department of Nursing, WIT in 2006, Miriam lectures and supervises at both undergraduate and Post graduate diploma and Masters Degree level on both the General and Psychiatric Programmes. She is actively involved with the development and delivery of new and innovative programmes for delivery at both undergraduate and post graduate level based on market and service needs. More recently she has been involved in the development of a programme designed to meet the needs of International students and a programme designed to address the skills mix needs in healthcare today. Miriam has undertaken research both independantly and as a member of group research, she has published reasearch, and has disemminated and presented at conference proceedings.
