Patrick Delaney is a graduate of the Bachelor of Business in Recreation and Sport Management programme in Waterford Institute of Technology. His PhD in the area of Social Media was one the first projects to be funded by the Irish Research Council for the Humanities and Social Sciences in WIT. Patrick has been a lecturer at Waterford Institute of Technology since 2011. Prior to that, he lectured in both Institute of Technology Tralee and University College Dublin. His research Interests include social media and its impact on both sports development practices and recreation and sport management and marketing. He is also interested in leisure operations management. Patrick is currently on the board of directors at the Apex Sport Health and Leisure Centre in New Ross. He has also collaborated with Wexford County Council on various community activities. In 2015, he was part of the organisation committee for the European Association of Sport Management Conference held in the Aviva stadium Dublin.
