I am the Programme Director for the BA (Hons) in Accounting, a position I have held since September 2012.
I am also the Subject Group Leader for the WIT Accounting Subject Group, which covers the development of module content in the areas of Financial Accounting, Management Accounting, Auditing and Taxation.
I lecture in Management Accounting, Financial Accounting, Accounting for non-specialists, Performance Measurement and Management Decision Making.
I am also Programme Director for the Certificate in Accounting for non-financial managers.
I have previously worked for 6 years as a Management Accountant for Bulmers (Ireland) Ltd. and was articled for 5 years with Ernst & Young, Waterford.
I am an Assistant Examiner for Chartered Accountants Ireland (2004 to date) and I have previously been an External Examiner for the Irish Marketing Institute (2007-2012)
I was educated in De La Salle College, Waterford (1984-1990) and subsequently studied for my Professional Accountancy examinations at Waterford Institute of Technology (1990-1992) and Griffith College Dublin (1992-1994)
I have been a lecturer in accounting at Waterford Institute of Technology since March 2003.
During my time at Waterford Institute of Technology, I have lectured in both the Management Accounting and Financial Accounting disciplines, mainly to students on Level 8 programmes. However, I have lectured at all levels between Level 6 and 9 at various stages.
I have also lectured to students at first year, second year, third year and final year stages of their programmes.
In my role as Programme Director I advise students about the various options available to them, from choosing elective modules to study options available post qualification. I also advise on interview techniques and the completion of job applications.
Prior to joining Waterford Institute of Technology I worked in Industry from September 1996 to February 2003. During this time I was Management Accountant for Grants of Ireland Ltd and C&C International Ltd, subsidiary companies of Bulmers (Ireland) Ltd.
I was responsible for the preparation of month end management accounts, as well as the year end financial accounts. I was also responsible for the preparation of the yearly budget, stock control and the implementation of a computerised budgeting system.
I was also the finance representative on a project team looking at Customer Profitability Analysis for over 1,500 customers of Grants of Ireland.
Previously, I worked for Ernst and Young Waterford from October 1992 to September 1996. I was responsible for the audit of year end company accounts and preparation of account for sole traders. I also performed a due diligence on the sale of a supermarket chain and managed teams ranging in size from 1 to 4 people on an onging basis.
I am currently an Assistant Examiner with Chartered Accountants Ireland, a role I have held since June 2004. My main responsibilty is the assessment of one of the papers at CAP2 level, as well as a preparation of a report for dissemination to all candidates.
I was also an Examiner with the Irish Marketing Institute from January 2007 to August 2012. I had responsibility for the setting of the Marketing Finance examination paper as well as the assessment of the submitted exam scripts.
