My Biography

Originally from Co. Limerick, Dr Dillon graduated with a PhD from Mary Immaculate College (University of Limerick) in 2008. His main research interests lie in the Irish language of the 19th Century, particularly among Irish communities outside of Ireland. He moved to Dublin in 2008 where he taught for a period at St Patrick's College Drumcondra. Dr Dillon has been working at WIT since September 2009 where he was the first Irish language lecturer on the BA Arts (Hons) programme. He has given lectures and classes in Ireland, the UK, Poland and the US. Dr Dillon was previously the Quality Promotion and Academic Policy Development Co-ordinator in WIT. Previously the Head of the Department of Arts and the Head of the Department of Humanities in the School of Humanities, Dr Dillon is now lecturing in that School. 

Research

Dr Dillon's research interests lie in the area of the Irish language during the Revival Period. He has a particular intertest in the Irish language outside of Ireland during that period. He has given lectures both in Ireland and abroad. Articles by Dr Dillon have been published in journals including Taighde agus TeagascAn GaelAn Linn Bhuí. He also has an interest in the importance of the liberal arts and the humanities as academic disciplines. Dr Dillon has a number of research postgraduate students. 

Teaching

Dr Dillon teaches (or has taught) the following modules:

An Ghaeilge (language, grammar etc.);

Siar agus Aniar: Stair na Gaeilge i Meiriceá (the history of the Irish language in America);

Prós na Gaeilge (Irish language prose); 

Traidisiúin agus Nósanna na nGael (traditions and customs of the Irish people);

Scríbhneoireacht na Gaeilge (writing in Irish);

Irish History and Heritage; 

Irish Culture as a Tourism Resource;

Professional

Dr Dillon has taught Irish language and literature in Mary Immaculate College; the University of Limerick; St Patrick's College Drumcondra; and Waterford Institute of Technology (WIT). From 2013-2015 he was the Quality Promotion and Academic Policy Development Co-ordinator in WIT. Previously the Head of the Department of Arts in the School of Humanities, Dr Dillon is now the Head of the Department of Humanities.
