I am a Chartered Civil Engineer with 16 years experience. My main area of expertise is in water supply and distribution, having spent seven years working on water projects in an engineering consultancy. I currently work as a lecturer in Waterford Institute of Technology, where my main areas of interest are water distribution, hydrology and structural engineering.
I hold an honours degree (BA, BAI) in Civil, Structural and Environmental Engineering and a masters degree (MSc) in Civil Engineering.
Lecturer on Civil Engineering, Sustainable Energy Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying and Architecture programmes.

PH McCarthy Consulting Engineers (2001 - 2007)
While working at PH McCarthy, I gained experience in the following areas:
Hydraulic modelling
Data logging of water networks
Water supply scheme design
Contract document preparation
Structural design and analysis
Structural surveys and condition reports
Site supervision
Projects:
Dublin Region Network Modelling Project
This project involved building computer models of the water supply network in the Greater Dublin Area. The project grew out of Dublin City Council’s Dublin Region Water Conservation Project. One outcome of this project is that unaccounted for water (UFW) in Dublin has reduced from 42% to 28%.
North Fringe Water Supply Scheme
The North Fringe project involved the design and construction of 13.6km of water pipelines and a water tower in North Dublin. I prepared drawings and contract documents for the pipeline contracts and for Sillogue Water Tower. This work involved preparing bills of quantities in line with Civil Engineering Standard Method of Measurement (CESMM).
Dunshaughlin Water Supply Scheme
This project involved undertaking a water audit and demand assessment for Dunshaughlin, Co. Meath and building a hydraulic model of the existing network and proposed improvements to the scheme. I used the model to check fire-fighting capacity and to optimise the height of a new water tower.
Adamstown Castle Housing Development
Assistant resident engineer on a housing development construction site.
St Michael's Hospital, Dún Laoghaire Water Supply
Resident engineer for a water supply scheme to the hospital.
St Andrews and Newcourt schools
Structural design of a new school in Bray, Co, Wicklow
