Course news/showcase

News stories and student work, projects, research, achievements

Purpose

  • Keep stakeholders updated
  • Material for course page
  • Material for social media

Structure

If it is a news item it needs to have who, what, when, where, why, how, additional context, and be WIT-relevant and also needs a quote attributed to someone to make it a ‘story’. Have a look at any newspaper or magazine to get a sense of that, or follow one of our templates.

If it is something else e.g. a  video or gallery of pics, this can be facilitated, just get in touch first for best approach

Related academic school landing page

How to gather/submit

Ideally via http://www.wit.ie/sendstory in ad hoc manner. Expect a two-week turnaround.

Use templates to make it easier to compile the main details of your story.

Planning

Aim for one course story per course per semester for class activity stories. Send it in close to the time it occurs rather than waiting till June.

A student or graduate story

Purpose

  • Helps people understand what courses are like, student life, career opportunities
  • Material for course stories tab
  • Material for social media
  • Helps with search engine results
  • Gives teachers case studies or material to explain to secondary students

Structure

Easy to scan Q&A where questions are asked to get people to provide answers that resonate with the target audience.

Questionnaires at http://www.wit.ie/sendstudentstory are conditional based on age/stage of student/graduate and type of course.

Where they appear

How to gather/submit

Lecturers are best placed to select, get students’ permission to provide contact details to Elaine Larkin who will follow up at appropriate time close to when story scheduled in content marketing plan.

Please consider:

  • Diversity in students required e.g. male/female ratio, race, socioeconomic background, entry route etc
  • Is full diversity of student backgrounds being reflected to inspire next intake and parents of prospective students?

Plan ahead

As there are 200 courses, one student/graduate story at a time per course is recommended. Courses that have a lack of recent stories or a course that has the potential to increase student numbers will be prioritised.
