This 10 credit programme aims to develop the student’s knowledge of various Neurodevelopmental disorders commonly seen in Primary Care and CAMHS settings such as ADHD and ASD.

Students will demonstrate an understanding of the neurological and genetic underpinnings for these disorders and an awareness of the frequently overlapping symptoms of Neurodevelopmental disorders such as ADHD, ASD, DCD, SpLD and Language Disorders and how these may be assessed and effectively treated using best international guidelines and evidenced based practice.

Students will be introduced to  a comprehensive and multimodal assessment of Neurodevelopmental disorders and co-current mental health disorders with young people and their families.

Students will be able to appraise the impact of symptoms of various Neurodevelopmental disorders including social, emotional, educational and occupational impacts throughout the lifespan and appreciate the importance of empowering young people with Neurodevelopmental disorders and their families.

Students will undertake an element of their learning online (80%), via primarily asynchronous (and some synchronous) modes.  These will include lectures, online resources and workshops.

This can be taken as a stand alone certificate or as part of a PG Dip or MSc in Mental Health Practice for Children and Young People

Candidates must have a Level 8 qualification in a cognate discipline

There is no licence to practice involved in any of the awards, but each will enhance the student’s knowledge of the specific areas of children’s and young people’s mental health
