The aim of the Postgraduate Diploma in Science in Professional Nursing is to provide an accessible, innovative, flexible and practice-orientated sustainable blended learning programme. Graduates will develop an advanced level of theoretical knowledge and innovative practice at a higher level of capability to work as independent, autonomous and expert nurses.

Delivery

The blended programme is delivered on a part time basis over two academic years

Mode:

  • Online one day weekly x 3 weeks
  • Onsite one day every 4th week

Fundamentals of Professional Practice

Leadership & Clinical Decision Making for Advanced Practice

Stage 1 Semester 2:

Research Methods for EBP

Advanced Practice in Person Centered Integrated Care

Stage 2 Semester 1:

Quality & Innovation

Elective Module - Advanced Comprehensive Health Assessment OR Transforming Practice through Reflection

To be eligible for this programme applicants must:

  • Be a registered Nurse with NMBI
  • Be currently employed in health care provision
  • Hold a level 8 qualification

*Applicants who do not have a level 8 qualification may apply for entry to the programme in accordance with the procedures outlined in the SETU Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) policy.

Due to the blended learning delivery within this course students should have access to a PC / Mac, a headset with a mic, and a broadband internet connection from home, to be able to fully participate in the course.

Basic IT skills are essential to complete this programme.

Applicants may be interviewed.

The programme provides the nurse with a broad based educational experience to practice at an advanced level.

Students may progress to the MSc in Science in Nursing Practice (90 ECTS)
