The BA in Community Education and Development aims to enable people working in the community and voluntary sector and associated service areas to work effectively as reflective community education and development practitioners.  Using a community education methodology, participants are encouraged to reflect on and share their knowledge, expertise and practice within a collaborative learning environment. This programme has been designed in collaboration with community practitioners for people working in the community, whether paid or voluntary, to gain an accredited qualification in community education and development, thus, enhancing their employment prospects.

The programme is delivered by skilled Community Education practitioners using group work methods. This delivery promotes the practice of collective and shared learning drawing on the knowledge and skills that the students bring to the classroom. Classes are delivered in workshop-style, where collaborative and creative learning is strongly encouraged.


Qualification: BA in Community Education and Development (60 credits, Level 7)

Delivery: 18 months, Friday 9.30am - 4.30pm

Assessment: All assessment is by continuing assessment

Cost: €370 per module

The Programme comprises the following 10 credit modules :

• Advanced Facilitations Skills
• Community Development Strategic Apporaches
• Community Education Theory
• Community Project Management
• Community Work Place Practice 2
• Equality Studies

Applicants must:

  • Hold a level 6 qualificiation in Community Education e,g. Higher Certificate in Community Education and Development or equivalent
  • Be active in their local community in either a voluntary or paid capacity
  • Work from an equality perspective

 

Suitable applicants will be called for interview

On successful completion of this programme, graduates may progress to the BA (Hons) in Community Education and Development or BA (Hons) in Teaching in Adult and Further Education in WIT or equivalent  programmes in other Higher Education Institutes.
