The Certificate in Adult Literacy Studies is a 30 credit NFQ Level 6 minor award aimed at current adult tutors, or those wishing to become tutors and explores theories and good practice in adult literacy, adult basic education and adult education.  This programme is ideally suited for existing or prospective tutors of adults who do not have a background in adult literacy tutoring but wish to gain an understanding of adult literacy needs. Additionally, learners on this programme will be introduced to approaches in addressing needs that would be relevant and applicable in their own practice. The Certificate in Adult Literacy Studies is designed to enable existing and prospective tutors and trainers of adults to meet the challenge of promoting, developing and encouraging literacy and numeracy. The programme is delivered by our experienced lecturing team, all of whom have a background in adult education and literacy.  The programme delivery promotes the practice of collective and shared learning optimising the knowledge and skills that the students bring to the process.  Classes are delivered in workshop-style, where collaborative and creative learning is strongly encouraged.
