With ongoing social distancing regulations likely to continue in place into the academic year 2020/21 WIT is reviewing delivery modes of part-time courses for the coming year. This may mean a change from the typical course delivery schedule. We are planning to publish the listing of part-time courses that will be offered for 2020/21 with further details on schedules and modes of delivery in early July

Higher Certificate in Adult and Further Education 

The Higher Certificate in Arts in Adult and Further Education is a third level qualification for current adult and further education practitioners and for those wishing to pursue a career in adult or further education. This includes those currently working in adult basic education, further education and training and community education. It is a modular part-time programme with a delivery model that facilitates the working practitioner that is based on weekend teaching blocs and use of the WIT virtual learning environment. 


The programme is designed to offer flexible pathways to the major award and includes advanced entry opportunities for experienced practitioners who may apply through the WIT RPL policy for direct entry at stage two, provided that they meet the learning outcomes set down for all Stage One modules. The Higher Certificate in Arts in Adult and Further Education is a part-time blended learning programme with a delivery model that facilitates the working practitioner. The programme is delivered through a combination of face-to-face and blended learning. Classes are delivered in weekend blocks (Friday and Saturday) on campus in WIT (on average 1 or 2 per month). Classes are workshop-style, where collective, collaborative and creative learning is strongly encouraged.

Applicants must

  • Currently work in an adult or further education and training setting and for the duration of the programme.
  • Applicants may be invited to attend an interview for entry to the programme.

Non-Standard Applicants
Applicants with significant professional experience in further education may apply for exemptions using WIT’s RPL Policy. For further information on advanced entry to this programme, please contact the Course Leader.

Participants who successfully complete the Higher Certificate in Arts in Adult and Further Education may progress to an ordinary degree programme at NFQ 7, the Bachelor of Arts in Adult Education.
