What is a BSc in Applied Healthcare?
The BSc in Applied Health Care is the first program of its kind in Ireland and is designed to help you understand the varied needs of patients across the lifespan and enable you to deliver direct health care in hospitals, community care, general practice, pharmaceutical industry and health research. This course also prepares students for the emerging area of internet and telephone health care delivery. Clinical experience is an essential element of the course. Placement occurs in each year of the course, which allows the student to put theory into practice in a real health care setting.

Prior to Placement
Prior to going on placement, students will be required to have satisfactory Garda Vetting/Police Clearance, Mandatory Training (CPR, Manual Handling) and Occupational Health. This will be coordinated by WIT staff. All placements will be discussed on an individual basis with students and where possible will reflect their specific areas of interest in direct health care delivery.
Mature Applicants
- Mature Applicants for this course must apply by 1 February. Late applications will not be accepted.
- Please note that the course content is exactly the same for mature and non-mature students, it is only the CAO code that differs.

International Links with Columbus Technical College, United States
Graduates of the BSc in Applied Health Care have the opportunity to progress to Columbus Technical College and pursue further education in the field of nursing and continue further studies to become a US registered nurse. Jessie Benson a year 3 BSc in Applied Healthcare student recently returned from a two week summer program in America, visiting in Columbus Technical College (CTC), Georgia. Jessie got to experience American college life during her stay, undertaking classes with American nursing students and visiting a range of health care facilities where students do placements.
Further opportunities
Successfully completing all aspects of this Level 7 BSc in Applied Healthcare allows you the option to apply for an add-on year which is a Level 8 BSc (Hons) in Applied Healthcare (WD005 AHC). This will allow you to access post-graduate MSc programs in England within health care.
