This programme is a workshop based programme that provides students with skills necessary for leadership and management. It has an online component and is run on alternate weeks. It is suitable for all members of the multidisciplinary team.

Course Structure 

This course is ideally suited to healthcare professionals and traditionally trained nurses who are interested in attaining a level 8 qualification in management and leadership.  The course is structured to support the student while facilitating those who are in full time employment. During the semester each student is expected to attend one full day in college on alternate weeks.  Through interactive workshops and stimulating discussion with  colleagues, leadership, management, quality improvement and many other core concepts of  management will be explored.  This programme emphasis is on helping each student reach his or her full potential and may be used in order to attain a management position or for those in management positions to develop further skills in this area.

The programme structure is one full day of attendance in class on alternate weeks. This means that students will attend six onsite days over the semester.

• Role of the manager/leader in managing change in health care

• Continuous quality improvement

• Risk management

• Budgeting and service development, delivery and evaluation and the role of the leader

  in strategic planning

• Evidence based practice, policy guideline development and implementation.

Applicants who do not hold the standard qualifying NFQ Level 8 qualification criteria, but have relevant work experience may be considered for admission to the programme under the Institute’s Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) process and subject to an interview.

This course provides an opportunity for managers or aspiring managers to develop their  skills in safe environment with their peers. The groups are usually drawn from diverse  professions within healthcare which provides diverse range of perspectives. In addition, the programme is workshop based and is designed to assist managers and leaders with networking, collaboration and working at solutions for common challenges experienced in today’s workplace.
