Applied Social Studies in Social Care
On successful completion of this course, graduates will be qualified to work in a wide range of Social Care settings, including working with children, in family support, community development, care of the elderly and with people with special needs. Given the nature of this work, applicants should give serious consideration to their personal interest and suitability to this type of challenging work.

Applied Social Studies in Social Care Course Structure
As part of the PPD modules (year 1 only), learners are required to complete an additional module on dance, drama or religion in both semesters. These are completed over a number of Saturdays in each semester.
PPD is a prerequisite for Practice Placement and therefore students should note that in order to undertake a Placement they must successfully complete the PPD modules.

Applied Social Studies in Social Care Entry Requirements
Given there are limited places available on this course, applicants must:

Be over 23 years

Have a minimum of three years’ work experience (paid or voluntary) within a Social Care setting

Submit a 500-word essay with their CV to tlace@wit.ie at the time of their application, to outline their suitability and relevant work experience

Provide Satisfactory Garda vetting.

Students are required to carry out a student work placement in years two and three of their studies in an approved social care setting (420 hours per placement).
For those already employed in an approved social care setting, it may be possible for you to complete one of your student work placements in your place of work. However, this must be in a different context of care to your usual work, and must be adequately supervised.
