International Hotel Management
The programme is a 1 year full-time higher Diploma (NQAI Level 8) intended to allow graduates from level 7 business programmes to pursue an add-on level 8 qualification in order to equip them for entry-level management positions in the international hospitality sector or to facilitate their progression to postgraduate level.
The programme is designed to support students in performing their duties as part of a hospitality management team and to equip students with the knowledge and skills required to effect change and achieve excellence in hospitality operations management
Delivery
This programme will be delivered over two academic semesters. The course will contain a significant element of practical activity that will be supported by formal lectures, workshops, self-directed student research and Moodle enabled on-line contact.

International Hotel Management Course Structure
The core focus in semester 1 is on operational management skills with a range of subjects to allow students acquire high levels of operational capability across all the major professional disciplines.
All practical training will be undertaken in the newly completed Tourism & Leisure building thereby allowing students to study in world-class facilities under the tutelage of an academic faculty who have an internationally recognised record of hospitality excellence.
The advanced management modules in semester 2 are chosen to build upon the existing business knowledge of the students and equip graduates with the strategic leadership capabilities expected of international hospitality professionals.

International Hotel Management Entry Requirements
In order to gain entry to this course, applicants will need:

A Tourism or Business undergraduate diploma or undergraduate degree, normally at 2.2 or better.

Applicants whose first language is not English must submit evidence of competency in English, please see WIT’s English Language Requirements for details.

Applicants who do not hold a level 7 qualification, may access the Institutes’ Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) Portfolio option. Through this Portfolio process applicants will be supported to demonstrate their experiential learning to date. For more information on this please contact the course leaders.

International Hotel Management Careers
Graduates of this programme will have the professional and operational competencies required to avail of employment opportunities at junior management positions within the international hospitality sector.
However, it is a realistic expectation of the programme board that graduates will, with appropriate work experience, progress to middle and senior management positions within a relatively short time period after graduation.
Additional employment opportunities open to students on completion of this programme could also include positions as business specialists (e.g. HR, Marketing, Finance) within international hospitality organisations.
Where students wish to follow careers in teaching, lecturing or research, this will be possible with subsequent postgraduate study.
