What is the BSc (Hons) in Entertainments Systems?

The BSc (Hons) in Entertainment Systems is a four year honours degree course. It is the study of content generation for digital multimedia systems, its motivations, qualities and technical frameworks and the presentation of computer-based content to mass audiences in a clear and cohesive manner.

The course on offer has two thematic streams:

  • Audio Technology

  • Game Development

In Semester 3, students choose either the Audio Technology or Game Development stream, having experienced introductory modules for both in Semesters 1 & 2.

Games: The student will learn to understand the games development process, games design theory, 2D and 3D games creation and how to exploit the potential of a range of games consoles.

Audio: The student will learn about acoustics, psychoacoustics, music theory, audio creation and editing tools, production techniques and multimedia software development.

Flexible Semester

Students take part in a (paid) work placement in semester 6. This placement takes place in a software house or the IT department of a large company or industry. Companies such as IBM and Microsoft have a long association with the placement of our students. Students have found this an invaluable experience.

Entertainment Systems students hit the airwaves

A series of radio documentaries produced by WIT students on the BSc (Hons) in Entertainment Systems (WD168) were recently broadcast on Beat 102-103. Have a listen to just two of them........

Reboots & Remixes: Movies & Film

In this episode of Reboots & Remixes (the longest in the series!), we look at how Film & TV have changed over the ten years. Up for discussion are the rise (and rise) of comic book movies, franchise pictures, remakes and reboots, special effects, gender roles, cinema attendance, internet streaming, piracy, narrative structures in TV programmes and a little bit about the Irish film & TV industry. This episode was written, edited and produced by Sean Moynihan and Rob O'Connor.
Features contributions from Andrew Holden (Actor & Critic), Dr. Jenny O'Connor (WIT) Stuart Clarke (Hotpress) and plenty of clips.

Remixes & Reboots: Technology

There have been huge developments in the ways in which we use technology in 2013, compared with 2003 and many of them are up for discussion in this episode of Reboots & Remixes. Smartphones, tablets, social media, YouTube, Skype, gaming - and we're only scratching the surface. This episode was written, edited and produced by Sean Bray and Rob O'Connor.
Features contributions from Eamonn de Leastar (TSSG), Danny O'Dwyer (Gamespot), Dr. Niamh Murphy (WIT) and Stuart Clarke (Hotpress).
