Strategic Public Relations

This module introduces the student to the key principles and practices of contemporary public relations from both a theoretical and practical perspective. It will cover topics including:

  • Theoretical Perspectives in Public Relations

  • The Public Relations Planning Process

  • Crisis Management – Crisis Communication Theories & Strategies

  • Issues Management: Political PR & Lobbying

  • Internal Communication: Employee Relations - Strategies & Techniques

  • Reputation Management - Corporate Image; Corporate Identity; Corporate Culture

  • Community Relations - Corporate Philanthropy: CSR

Learning Outcomes 

On successful completion of this module, a student will be able to:

  • Critically evaluate and apply the alternative theoretical approaches to Public Relations practices

  • Identify key elements of PR Planning and apply to PR Campaigns

  • Analyse the Public Relations activities and functions within small, medium and large scale organisations

  • Demonstrate an understanding of key issues facing PR practitioners

  • Differentiate between best practice and worst practice Public Relations with reference to key case studies and other examples

  • Demonstrate in-depth critical understanding of Public Relations by referencing key academic articles and theoretical models in this area
