Student Testimonial

Gemma Mackey

HDIP in Business Systems Analysis

When I applied for the HDIP in Business Systems Analysis, I had a Bachelor of Arts degree, and worked in childcare, but I could see how computer systems are changing all industries and I wanted to learn more and change my career focusing in that direction. I was initially apprehensive that my lack of a technical background would come against me, but the lecturers were really helpful, and we learned a lot through practical group work and from working on projects with other members of the class. Everyone came from different backgrounds, so had a variety of skillsets, and we all helped each other learn. I designed and built websites, databases and web applications, and learned about software engineering and software validation, as well as project management and data analytics. I completed an internship with a technological company in Waterford, and everything I had learned on the HDIP gave me the skills and confidence to help me transition into a technical workplace as a Business Systems Analyst.
