eduroam

Eduroam at WIT Technical Details:

Media:  Wirless 802.a/b/g/n
SSID:  eduroam
Encryption: WPA2/AES/TKIP is supported
Authentication: 802.1x. Local users authenticated using TTLS-PAP MSCHAPv2-PEAP

The following Sites have eduroam configured:

Main Cork Road campus
College Street campus
Norco Campus
WIT Arena
Granary Building

Network details:

WIT has URL filtering in place and these polices extend to eduroam
No proxying of eduroam traffic is in effect.
IPv6 support is not available now, planned for the future.
Wireless traffic is NAT'd.
No wired access is provided.
Approx 160 AP's.

Creating an eduroam profile for Android Devices

The following procedure will work for Android based devices.Samsung phones, Google Chromebook etc.

Step 1 - Go to settings, tap wireless and networks, then WI-FI settings.

Step 2 - Select eduroam.

Step 3 - In the EAP Method, select the PEAP option.

Step 4 - In the Phase 2 authentication, select the MSCHAPV2 option.

Step 5 - In the identity box, enter your network ID

            This is your WIT AD account, which are the below format: -

            For Students: [email protected]

            For Staff: [email protected]

Step 6 - Leave the Anonymous Identity box blank.

Step 7 - Enter your WIT AD password.

Step 8 - Click the Save/Connect button.

Creating an eduroam profile for Apple Devices

The following procedure will work for Apple IOS based devices.iPhone,iPads,Macbook etc

Step 1 - Go to settings, tap WI-FI.

Step 2 - Select eduroam.

Step 3 - In the identity box, enter your network ID

            This is your WIT AD account, which are the below format: -

            For Students: [email protected]

            For Staff: [email protected]

Step 4 - Enter your WIT AD password.

Step 5 - Click the Join/Connect button.

Step 6 - At the prompt screen to turst the certificate click trust.

Configuring an eduroam profile in windows 7

Step 1 - Left Click on the wireless icon in the system tray, Click the Network and Sharing Centre

Step 2 - On the left hand side, Click "Manage Wireless Networks".

Step 3 - in the wireless network management window click Add to add a new profile.

Step 4 - Select manually create a network profile.

Step 5 - pe "eduroam" for "Network name" and select WPA2-Enterprise for "Security type".

Then click “next”

Step 6 - Do  not click close. Click "Change connection settings".

Step 7 -Select the Security tab.

Step 8 -Click the "Settings" button.

Step 9 -Untick the Validate the Servers Identity box,

Step 10 -Beside the Secure password (EAP-MSCHAP v2) click configure.

Uncheck the automatically use my windows logon name and password, then click “Ok” Twice.

Step 11 - Click "Advanced settings".

Step 12 - First, check off "Specify authentication mode:".

Next, choose "User authentication" in the drop down menu.

Then, click "Save credentials".

Step 13 -Type your WIT AD Account name,

In the format [email protected] for Students.

In the format [email protected] for Staff.

And then your WIT AD password.

Then, click "OK".

Step 14 - Click "OK". Click "OK" again.

Lastly, click "Close".

Eduroam will automatically connect at this point.

Configuring an eduroam profile in windows 8.1 and 10

Step 1 - Hit the start button and type Network and Sharing Centre

            Click Settings and click on network and sharing centre.

Step 2 - Click "Set up a new connection or network".

Step 3 - Select "Manually connect to a wireless network" and then click "Next".

Step 4 - Type "eduroam" for "Network name" and select WPA2-Enterprise for "Security type".

            Then click “next”

Step 5 - Do not click close. Click "Change connection settings".

Step 6 - Select the Security tab.

Step 7 - Click the "Settings" button.

Step 8 - Untick the Validate the Servers Identity box, then click “Ok”.

Step 9 - Click "Advanced settings".

Step 10 - First, check off "Specify authentication mode:".

              Then, click "Save credentials".
