SETU Waterford Libraries

Two libraries serve South East Technological University - the Luke Wadding Library on the Cork Road Campus and College Street Campus Library. Students have full access to both libraries, regardless of which campus they are based at.Both libraries offer a full induction and orientation programme and the library's learning support centre organises a comprehensive training programme of information and research skills tutorials for individuals or student groups.

SETU Waterford Libraries' highly regarded website (library.wit.ie) offers an array of 'virtual library' facilities to serve off-campus use including remote access to fulltext materials, online booking and enquiry service.

Open since 2000, Leabharlann Luke Wadding is the Institute's main library and is one of the largest and most innovative third-level libraries in Ireland.  In addition to its large volumes of books, the library holds over 10,000 journal/periodical titles between electronic and print versions. It also houses considerable video, language and multi-media collections, to which all registered students have access.

The Building

Luke Wadding Library is an energy efficient 'green' building and has won important architectural and Department of the Environment sustainable building awards. The building underpins WIT's commitment to being a regional centre of excellence and a world-class learning environment.Covering 6,000 sq. metres, the library is extremely well-equipped with over 1,200 reader spaces and a collection in the region of 200,000 items. All reader spaces are networked and there are over 150 student workstations all with full Internet access.

Resources

The library has a wide array of resources and services, ranging from traditional books and print media to online information, databases, CDROMs, e-journals and computer assisted activities. The library offers a comprehensive Information Skills Training Programme designed to equip all students with the information literacy skills necessary to fully utilise the wide variety of information sources now available in this Information Age.

The Programme facilitates students critically analysing and evaluating information and effectively using it to build their own skills and knowledge faculties.


 

Most library services are also available at the Institute's branch library in College Street Campus, often referred to as the Good Shepherd Library. College Street maintains important collections in humanities, law, art and design, music, nursing and healthcare. Students based in College Street retain the same library privileges as students based on the Cork Road campus.

Reserved Zones

Reserved zones for student group study and dedicated quiet study area to facilitate different modes of learning, self-service book checkout, a suite of seminar rooms,language room with a/v material, inter-library loans, thesis room, Electronic Learning Centre, Information/Reference Desk, English Language Centre to support and assist students from non- English speaking backgrounds, Assistive Technology area fully equipped with hardware and software to aid users with particular or special learning needs. The main library also includes dedicated postgraduate study areas and meeting rooms and a dedicated staff reading area

Ancillary services .

The library's ancillary services facilities include photocopying and printing stations and Oscars Coffee Dock. All these services can be utilised with your WITCard. Membership of both libraries is automatically conferred upon students following full registration.
