The Higher Education Lifelong Learning in Ireland Network (HELLIN) is an all-island body that advocates for the interests of the adult and mature student populations in universities and institutes of technology across the island North and South. The HELLIN 2019 Conference will focus on how Lifelong Learning can help prepare us for our Future World.

Lifelong learning

The Conference aims to explore how Lifelong Learning is responding to a changing external environment and how shifts in policy, practice and innovations are helping shape our future. The HELLIN conference is an opportunity for researchers, practitioners, learners and policymakers to discuss these shifts, share practice and research and debate the issues facing all those involved in Lifelong Learning. The conference themes are:
Policy

  • The Future for Lifelong Learning
  • New Life and Work Trajectories; Re-balancing social and human capital in Lifelong Learning
  • International policy developments to support Lifelong Learning

Practice

  • The Changing Role of the Lifelong Learning Practitioner

HELLIN 2019  is sponsored by the National Forum for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning in Higher Education.

The keynote speaker for this conference is Dr. Meg Benke, noted adult educator and online learning leader is Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs at State University of New York Empire State College and Professor, School of Graduate Studies.

Dr. Benke has had an extensive administrative career at Empire State College, previously serving as dean of the Center for Distance Learning and acting president. Dr. Benke was a Fulbright Scholar in 2015 at the Waterford Institute of Technology and is a continuing faculty associate with the institute.  She continues to advise WIT and other institutions in Ireland related to online and blended learning strategy and the Recognition of Prior Learning.
