Over forty minutes Dr Kate McCarthy and Dr Úna Kealy lecturers at Waterford Institute of Technology, Ireland will present an overview of their recent research on Irish playwright Teresa Deevy. The lecture will consider how Deevy’s education and extra-curricular cultural activities in St. Mary's Secondary School, Waterford, as expressed in the St. Ursula’s Annuals published in the early 1900s, form the intellectual and creative ground work to her later dramatic work. The lecture positions Deevy’s work within the social and political context of the 1920s and 1930s.
The lecture is a research dissemination output by the Performing the Region research project based within the Department of Creative and Performing Arts, School of Humanities, Waterford Institute of Technology.
