Waterford Institute of Technology is hosting its second Women In Technology event to showcase and promote careers in technology to girls at second level The percentage of female students in technology-related degree programmes is still very low and we are bringing together female role models to speak to the students about their interest in technology and the path that they have taken to their current jobs.
Ireland’s fastest woman, Phil Healy, will be among the speakers. Phil is currently doing an MSc in Computing at WIT.
This free event will include exhibitions, technology demonstrations and speakers from industry as well as information around the multitude of computing, engineering and physics third level programmes, which act as a gateway to these industries. We hope that this event will help second level female students to see the full spectrum of jobs that are available, and to understand that these options are as relevant and achievable for girls as they are for boys.
Who should attend?
In order to emphasise the role modelling aspect of this event, attendance will be for female students only. Second level and third level female students and teachers are invited to attend. This free event will include exhibitions, technology demonstrations and speakers from industry speakers as well as information around the multitude of third level programmes which act as a gateway to these industries.
