SciFest is a local one-day science fair held in third level colleges and open to all second level students. SciFest aims to encourage a love of science through an investigative approach to learning and to provide an opportunity for students to display their scientific discoveries.
Scifest at Waterford Institute of Technology is coordinated by Calmast, WIT's STEM Outreach centre. In 2017, we have over 400 students competing from counties Waterford, Wicklow, Wexford, Tipperary and Kilkenny. The students will be judged by a high level judging team drawn from local STEM companies and lecturers from the Schools of Science, Engineering and Health Sciences, WIT.
Scifest at WIT is part of the national Scifest programme where, STEM fairs take place at 16 regional venues. Winners of each regional fair compete at a national final.
A wide variety of projects will be on display from Does the colour of food affect our perception of how it tastes, to Do energy drinks improve short-term performance, to Cupcake Chemistry and Farm Safety Among Students, and much more.
