Physical activity is among the strongest predictors of health for people with mental illnesses, but often underutilised as a theraputic resource in mental health care.

This is an information event open to clinicians, carers and service users about best practice in physical activity implementation in mental health care. The event, wich is due to be opened by Prof. Willie Donnelly (President of Waterford Institute of Technology), is being organised by Mr Evan Matthews (PhD Student - Department of Nursing & Health Care, NMPDU HSE scholarship) and Dr Suzanne Denieffe (Dean of the School of Humanities).

The event will feature talks from international experts in the field and health services management tasked with implementing physical activity strategy, namely Dr Simon Rosenbaum (Senior Research Fellow in the School of Psychiatry UNSW Australia, Director of Exercise and Sport Science Australia), Dr Wolfgang Schebesch-Ruf (Post-doctoral researcher at the Institute of Sport Sciences, University of Graz, Austria), Mr Evan Matthews (Doctoral Reasercher in the Department of Nursing and Health Care, WIT) and Dr Derval Howley (Area Lead for Health and Wellbeing, The Health Service Executive).
