A new global spiritual awakening in an uncertain world is moving people to seek spiritual resources for issues about the meaning and value of the journey of life. This awakening is impacting universities and the professions and is seeking a response from them. In this lecture Dr. O'Sullivan will address the issues of identity, integrity, objectivity, and inclusivity for spirituality as a university discipline and show how they can be met through the praxis of authentic subjectivity.
Dr. Michael O'Sullivan is Emeritus Lecturer and a founding member of the Spirituality in Society and the Professions Research Group (SpirSoP) at SETU and was the founding programme leader of the MA in Applied Spirituality. He is Director of the Spirituality Institute for Research and Education, which hosts and supports the MA, and PhD in spirituality students, in Dublin, and a Research Fellow at the University of the Free State, South Africa. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of the International Network for the Study of Spirituality and the editorial boards of both the Journal for the Study of Spirituality and Spiritus. His standing among international colleagues in the field of spirituality studies is exemplified by Prof Philip Sheldrake at Cambridge: “Dr. O’Sullivan has made a substantial and notable contribution to the development of the academic field of spirituality in its varied forms, particularly in the English-speaking world”.
