Research Day 2017 Countdown

WIT Research Day is an annual event that brings together postgraduates from across the six schools of the Institute, to showcase the breadth and depth of research activities being undertaken and the knowledge generated by such. It also serves to enhance the understanding of postgraduate research across the Institute and to provide postgraduate researchers with an opportunity to look outside of their own discipline and explore alternative research areas. This year, 2017, will be the 8th running of the event and it promises to deliver some wonderful insights into the research of our postgraduate community.

Research Day 2017 Book of Abstracts

WIT Research Day 2017 took place on Thursday the 18th of May 2017. This was our seventh Research Day focussed on celebrating the enormous contribution of our research postgraduates to the institute’s academic community. Research postgraduates are the lifeblood of a higher education institute’s research profile and as an institute we are enormously proud of the talent, ambition and diversity of the 200+ research postgraduates from across our six schools – Health Sciences, Humanities, Science and Computing, Engineering, Lifelong Learning and Education and Business.

Research Day 2017 provided a valuable opportunity for WIT researchers to come together with their colleagues from across the institute to showcase their research activities, insights and innovations. Although growing, the size of WIT’s research community is such that researchers from disparate disciplines could meet in a friendly and collegiate atmosphere to explore alternative research perspectives, philosophies and methodologies. Moreover, Research Day provided a means for all institute staff and students to enhance their understanding of the depth and breadth of postgraduate research across the Institute.

The theme of the day was Connect, Innovate, Inspire – a motif that serves to remind us of the importance of research to a thriving third level Institute environment, and the potential of this research to extend beyond WIT as a driving force for the social and economic development of the region. It also speaks to the onus on researchers not only to perform impactful research, but also to effectively communicate the insights gained well beyond their narrow scholarly communities.

In total, the work of 52 postgraduate research students was presented from across the Institute, in a variety of competitions, from a 3MT to an Oral Competition and from poster competition to an image with impact competition. It was a thoroughly enjoyable day attended by over 140 academic staff and students.
