Course content:
We’ll take participants through ten key tips for building productive connections with industry. Each tip will provide insight, examples and activities for researchers to apply to themselves, their research and their area of business interest.
- Understand how your expertise can make a difference
- What are the ‘pain points’ or challenges for public/private/third sector
- Recognise differences between academia and other sectors
- Help different sectors understand what academia can offer
- Be able to explain your research at multiple levels.
- Find ways to meet people and build a wide network
- Seek relationships, not just funding. Good collaboration is about win/win
- Be open to opportunity and identify future opportunities
- Leverage existing resources, including within your university
- Be clear on what you are looking for
About the trainer: ZACH SORRELLS, Skillfluence
Zach has been working in the field of innovation and entrepreneurship for over 15 years. He’s an experienced trainer, facilitator, coach and entrepreneur and believes in a disciplined, structured and systems-based approach to innovation and business growth. He has applied, or taught, this approach in a variety of roles with individuals, companies and organizations ranging from multi-nationals, SMEs, economic development agencies, universities, SMEs, angel investors, startups and high school students.
