Researcher Orientation 2019

Researcher Orientation 2019
Time: All Day
Location: Netlabs Boardroom, Carriganore Campus

As a new member of research staff at the Institute, we would like to do all that we can possible to assist you in your new role in WIT and to ensure that your time with us is mutually rewarding. Learning about the Institute and its people is likely to be an incremental process across the coming months and most of the learning will occur informally on the job and through colleagues. In addition, the Institute offers a number of supports to assist you during this period.

With this in mind we have organised a Researcher Orientation Session on Friday the 13th of September in the Board Room, Netlabs, Carriganore campus.  This session is mandatory for all new researchers who have commenced in the Institute since the last Researcher Induction Programme held on the 18th of September 2018.  It will commence at 9am with coffee and networking, and throughout the day you will hear presentations from key Research Support staff on issues such as the research culture at WIT, research integrity and ethics, identifying funding, grant writing, managing your funded research project, research collaborations, engagement and impact, etc.. It also provides you with the opportunity to meet with me, members of my team and other new researchers.

WIT aims to be an attractive, supportive and stimulating environment in which to carry out research and recognises the importance of providing its researchers with the necessary training and support environment to develop their careers.  WIT fully endorses the principles of the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers and is fully committed to the Human Resource Strategy for Researchers (HRS4Rs).  WIT was the first Institute of Technology in Ireland to receive the European Commission’s HR Excellence in Research Award in May 2014. Subsequently, WIT retained the award at the two-year stage and developed an evolved Action Plan.  This planned orientation event is an action arising from the HRS4Rs. More information about the Charter and the HRS4Rs can be found on and

In order to finalise arrangements and make provisions for refreshments, please confirm your attendance by email to [email protected] by 5pm on Tuesday the 10th of September.  If you have any special, dietary needs please let us know when you are booking in.

We look forward to meeting you on the 13th.
