Call into Garter Lane Arts Centre on Culture Night to join WIT staff and students and enjoy an intimate reading of Strange Birth, a one-act play written by Waterford playwright Teresa Deevy in the 1930s. Set in the entrance hall of No. 19 Mountain View Road on a bright sunny morning and capturing the brief moment in-between postman Bill Kirwin delivering letters to the house and returning to deliver one letter of particular significance Strange Birth explores the pain, joy and fear of love. Perfectly encapsulated in under 30 minutes Strange Birth illuminates the emotional turmoil of love and loss with Deevy’s characteristic delicacy and exquisite dramatic subtlety. Directed by former WIT student Rebecca Phelan and featuring students from the Theatre Studies & English programmes in Waterford Institute of Technology with the kind support from Garter Lane Arts Centre.
