Who is Eligible for Consideration under Progression Scheme?

Students of partner Colleges of Further Education who meet the specific criteria.

Benefits

  • The SETU Waterford Progression Scheme is an additional route into Higher Education for students of partner Colleges of Further Education. The route is in addition to applicants being assessed as regular CAO applicants on the basis of Leaving Certificate or FET QQI points, or as a CAO mature applicants (if over 23 on 1 January on the year of entry), if relevant;
     
  • There are a specific number of places reserved on particular SETU Waterford programmes for Progression Scheme applicants;
     
  • The SETU Waterford progression workshops and information sessions, held at partner Colleges of Further Education, offer a valuable preview of the nature of the SETU Waterford programme(s) chosen and college life.
     
  • The SETU Waterford Progression Scheme criteria (see http://www.wit.ie/progression) set out the requirements that an applicant must meet to be considered for a place at SETU Waterford under the Progression Scheme. A student who is about to embark on a FET QQI course at one of the partner Colleges of Further Education covered by the agreement will therefore know which programme to select and successfully complete, and what additional requirements are essential, in order to be considered for the progression scheme and maximise his/her opportunities for gaining a place in higher education.
     
  • Offers to applicants under the Progression Scheme are made in advance of CAO Round 1 which gives more time to organise accommodation and make travel arrangements.

How to apply for entry to year one:

  • Applicants for year-one entry must apply through the CAO for a linked SETU Waterford course(s). The CAO deadline for applications is 1 February on the year of entry. The CAO also have a late deadline of 1 May on the year of entry for non-restricted courses.
     
  • Applicants should inform the relevant co-ordinator or course leader in their further education college that they wish to apply for the SETU Waterford Progression Scheme and complete whatever local application processes are in place. The College of Further Education will then notify SETU Waterford of the applicants for the progression scheme.
     
  • Applicants should attend SETU Waterford workshops and/or information sessions in their College of Further Education, acquaint themselves with the criteria for entry, and fulfil any additional requirements specified under the progression agreement for their chosen programme, such as additional modules, portfolio assessment, or music entrance examination.
     

How to apply for entry to year two:

  • Applicants for year-two entry must apply through the Institute’s Advanced Entry Process by the published closing date for a linked SETU Waterford course(s) (see http://www.wit.ie/advancedentry).
     
  • Applicants should inform the relevant co-ordinator or course leader in their College of Further Education that they wish to apply for the SETU Waterford Progression Scheme and complete whatever local application processes are in place. The College of Further Education will then notify SETU Waterford of the applicants for the progression scheme.
     
  • Applicants should attend SETU Waterford workshops and/or information sessions in their College of Further Education, acquaint themselves with the criteria for entry, and fulfil any additional requirements specified under the progression agreement for their chosen programme, such as additional modules or attend for interview.
     

Selection Criteria:

  • The reserved places on each SETU Waterford programme for the SETU Waterford Progression Scheme will be allocated to eligible applicants on a descending ranked order.
