SETU Waterford seeks to create a dynamic, vibrant environment within which research students study and operate. Students work closely with senior faculty on their research projects and benefit from this proximity to high-standard research activity. Post-doctoral fellows in many research areas also contribute to generating a lively, supportive research environment.
Research students participate in a range of academic and social events co-ordinated by the Institute. Peer-to-peer learning is valued and the opportunities for debate amongst and between students are encouraged. Opportunities for students to share ideas and to forge new and exciting research partnerships—towards, for instance, interdisciplinary research—are facilitated.
Research students benefit from access to the wide range of learning materials available in the SETU Waterford libraries.
Waterford is well-connected by public transport to other major Irish cities. Research students are encouraged to visit other colleges and universities and are assisted in gaining access to materials in other centres. SETU Waterford values its many collaborations it has with industry partners and with other third level institutions; research students also draw on these collaborations and are actively encouraged to avail of the additional human and other resources such collaboration makes available.
