Safety & Security

The safety and security of students and staff is of paramount importance to WIT. The WIT Health & Safety Office provides advice and guidance on all issues relating to health and welfare at the Institute. For more information and to ensure WIT is a safer place for all please visit the Health & Safety section.

Some Advice

Outside of the WIT campus, we can only provide advice to ensure the safety of our students. Luckily, Waterford is a relatively safe city. However, we advise the following precautions to our students:

  • Don't walk anywhere alone, particularly at night

  • Keep your valuables in a safe place - don't have them too visible where possible

  • Keep your house locked (and alarmed if possible)

  • If you are travelling home at weekends and your accommodation will be empty, ask a neighbour or friend to call in and turn on lights etc.

  • Keep bikes and cars locked

  • Talk to Student Life and Learning, Students Union or your class tutor if you are feeling unsafe
