WIT lecturer awarded the All Ireland Institute of Hospice and Palliative Care Educational Fellowship for online learning resources development
WIT is proud to announce that lecturer Geraldine Purcell, Department of Nursing and Healthcare, is the All Ireland Institute of Hospice and Palliative Care (AIIHPC) Educational Fellowship Awardee for Online Learning Resources Development. SETU and the All Ireland Institute of Hospice and Palliative Care (AIIHPC) recently announced their new joint partnership. The aim of this partnership is to help improve the quality of research, education, practice and policy for people with life limiting conditions on the island of Ireland and internationally.
This award aims to support palliative care professionals, and affiliated staff from within AIIHPC partner organisations to enhance and expand their knowledge, skills, and expertise in the development of online learning resources suitable for use on The Palliative Hub.
The Pallative Hub
The Palliative Hub has been developed by AIIHPC with a number of palliative and hospice care stakeholders to act as a gateway to information and resources about palliative care in the Republic and Northern Ireland. The Professional Palliative Hub provides online resources for health and social care professionals, researchers and educators.
Interactive online resource
Geraldine Purcell's proposal is to develop an accessible, interactive, online resource in palliative and end-of-life care for undergraduate student nurses. It is hoped this will encourage student nurses to become more confident, and provide them with a safe space to learn more about palliative care patients and their families.
Speaking of the benefits of this new resource, Geraldine who has extensive clinical nursing experience in specialist palliative care said, “I believe this focus on undergraduate nursing education will stimulate interest and highlight learning opportunities in palliative and end-of-life care for all nursing students.”
